Takeaways from trauma training and upcoming support sessions.
Hi !
Fresh
Insights from the Transforming Trauma Training
I just returned from an inspiring training on transforming trauma with Peter Levine, the founder of Somatic Experiencing, and Ruth Lanius, a leading expert in trauma neuroimaging. It was a deep dive into how the brain and body respond to trauma, blending somatic practices with an understanding of neural pathways—like those moments when arousal meets raw emotion, and physical
alert signals crash into intense feelings, sometimes leading to overwhelm or disconnection.
We explored the brain’s “default mode network (DMN),” which supports self-reflection and a steady sense of self, and how it can go offline in trauma, making memories feel relived rather than remembered. Ruth’s compassion for these patterns, and Peter’s emphasis on gentle nervous system regulation, reminded me why body-centered work like Somatic
Experiencing and NeuroAffective Touch is so transformative.
These takeaways are already sparking new ideas for how I’ll support you in group offerings and 1:1 sessions. For example, we’ll use simple somatic tracking to navigate those over-connected “tangled webs” of exhaustion and under-connected “isolated islands” of stuckness, helping release trauma’s hold without forcing it. Whether through group explorations of inner parts or personalized guidance, this
will enhance our work on building safety and integration from the inside out—making healing more accessible and embodied.
The highlight? Peter signed my copy of his new autobiography, sharing a warm moment that captured the heart of this field. The photo above is a beautiful reminder of the personal touch in this work. If you’re curious about applying these ideas, reach out or join a session soon.
